Mikko-Pekka Hyvärinen is a Helsinki-based mixed-media artist whose practice combines recycled materials with painting, sculpture, photography, and image transfer techniques. The ideas for his works often emerge in places lacking their own identity, such as wastelands that have come to signify the Anthropocene. Hyvärinen is playfully fascinated by the downside of the urban landscape, which is both ruggedly charming and intriguingly distorted. Recently, he has focused on exploring the visual-material possibilities of polystyrene using recycled surplus insulation boards and packaging materials. Hyvärinen holds a Master of Arts degree from Uniarts Helsinki from 2025 and has been working as an artist since 2012.
